Spielbericht von Michi Schechinger:

It’s done – back to back championships for our Team!

Coming into the 2017/2018 season there was one certain main goal for BSC Salzburg‘s Team: Be the Best during the regular season – which was definitely fullfilled by only losing one game in a heartbreaking overtime thriller.
With that on their back BSC didn’t have any other option but to show what they are made of during the finals weekend.

In the semi finals BSC had to face an old acquaintance: LOK Salzburg. As usual BSC didn’t underestimate their opponent and therfore adjusted their intensity right from the start and claimed a solid lead of 9 after the first quarter.
LOK was obviously unable to cope with the intensity and energy BSC was bringing to court and had to enter their locker room with a 22 point deficit after the buzzer concluded the first half.

In an effort to come back LOK made a little run and could make up some ground reducing their deficit to 18 points until the end oft he third quarter. Nevertheless this didn’t really affect BSC’s confidence and playing style (which unfortunately included only 1/13 shooting from 3 point range and 2/9 from the FT-line) and so while the sound oft he final horn was ringing out, a clear victory was visualized on the scoreboard: BSC 67: 45 LOK.

After grasping the well-deserved win, BSC earned their ticket tot he final game on Sunday. Their opponent had not yet been determined until approx. 7:30 pm on Saturday, when Zell am See defeated Hallein and also moved on to the Finals.

Sunday – 6 pm:
The announcer introduced the players of each Team – Excitement was slowly emerging in the gym of Liefering Nord as the final game to find the successor of last year‘s champion was about to begin. Eventhough BSC had defeated Zell am See twice during the regular season they knew it was going to be tough as Zell is always up for a good and hard fight. After defeating last year’s runner-up, Hallein in the semis, Zell am See indeed looked hungry for the championship.

Already the first quarter seemed to be tougher than any other for BSC during the entire season only seizing a small advantage by the end of the first.
But the second quarter became even more difficult for BSC as Zell am See found their rhythm and stole BSC’s lead. For a long time BSC hadn’t had to set foot in the locker room during the half time break with a deficit on the scoreboard.

But being a good team includes never letting your heads down so the third quarter was a tipping point for BSC – an incredible 20-2 run put BSC back in charge and demonstrated the will to win the championship again.
In the last quarter Zell tried to show some signs of life and hit a few 3-pointers but that couldn’t prevent BSC from going on another 9-0 run and hence putting the nail in the coffin to secure their victory and ultimately the championship.

We would like to thank all of you for supporting our Team throughout the entire season and thus making us the happiest Team on earth!
